Cedar Railing
Lancaster, Ky., January 5, 2007- With the unpredictable steel market and the steady rise in the cost of steel, it's no wonder builders and contractors are looking to white cedar as a solution. White cedar products are comparable to steel in size, dependability and longevity but at a fraction of the cost. Rocky Top Log Furniture and Railing's lead engineer Ryan Hill isn't surprised to see the shift to white cedar in both the commercial and residential markets.
Natural preservative oils make white cedar an ideal choice for outdoor use. It is naturally insect repellent and releases moisture better than most woods, protecting it from rot and decay. The wood ages naturally to a soft grey, but for those who prefer a more finished, even look white cedar accepts a variety of paints and stains and can be easily customized. Actually, cedar absorbs paint more readily than other products, which allows for less chipping and flaking, reducing maintenance costs.
"Our products are made using logs that are a true diameter with no bends or turns. You are getting essentially the wood version of steel. With our pricing and quick turnaround times it’s very hard to beat " says Hill.
“Amusement parks such as Six Flags have been quick to benefit,” says Hill. “They have used our railing around rides and for crowd control, matching it with numerous themes. With the durability of the wood and our unique production process, we save them time and maintenance costs.”
Rocky Top offers custom railing sections cut to buyer’s exact lengths. The sections arrive labeled and with a diagram for easy installation. A design team is available to help customers get exactly what they want. Pre-cut 8’ and 10’ sections are also available for those who want to customize the rails on-site. Sections are also available in three distinct textures. Sanded Smooth is a splinter free surface, while High Country and Hand Hewn offer rougher qualities.
Rocky Top uses Northern White Cedar, mostly from Michigan, to produce log furniture for both the retail and commercial industries as well as a variety of log railing products. The company is well known for its log railing, constructed through a special process using minimal tools, assembling quickly, and maintaining durability even in tough commercial use.
